Miranda Lawson, modelled on her voice actress Yvonne Strahovski. Painted on a 1m x 80 cm canvas using acrylic paints. It replaces a different painting I did of a Quarian that I simply wasn't happy with.
I used a big ruler to make sure I was getting the perspective straight. I find that the bigger scale you work, it can be hard to judge angles and perspective correctly. Once I knew I had the slant of the buildings mostly straight on, it wasn't a problem to get the lines relatively straight. With paint you'll never really get any line 100 percent straight - at least I can't anyway!!
A very sharp piece of art - love the shine effects you got on the cerberus logo and costume scenes (nice touch). She looks pretty severe here - cold and thinking.
Any chance you'd be OK with me maybe posting this some time to one of the albums of a small Facebook Page I admin called Mass Effect Miranda Lawson? I'd include reference to you as artist and a link to your original here on DA in the photo caption..?
Hurrah! I have *finally* uploaded your pic to the page here: [link] and just shared it with a note. Looking at her picture again it reminded me of an old song: "Over My Shoulder" by Mike And The Mechanics. Thank you for the permission!
Woah, that looks really amazing. I think the fact that you based it on Yvonne definitely make it unique, and also more life-like. Considering Miranda is already based on her voice actress, it really works, too. I really like the pose and the way you did the shading. The background looks like it was kind of hard, haha, considering the metal-like appearance you had to be able to do--and you can very well. Her expression is perfect as well. I REALLY love this painting, so well done!
Well that's the thing. Miranda in game is very much based on Yvonne too. Really the painting should have looked very like the in game Miranda, and yet it kind of doesn't. I thought using Yvonne as the starting point made more sense as I wanted the painting to have a fairly real look. The background was alot of fun - fiddly at times but as backgrounds go, it's one of the more detailed ones i've done for work like this.
Thank you for your kind words, they're much appreciated.
